The Rock-itt : July 2012
A brief shower threatened to dampen spirits as riders began their course walk at 7:30am for day two of the Winter Show Jumping Festival held at the Camden Equestrian Park. As first rider, Anna White, entered Arena 1 with Henderson for the third round of the FEI World Challenge Category A class the raindrops stopped and held off until the last horse finished the day’s jumping. Martin Gostelow, one of the riders carrying no penalties from the previous day, was out second with Classico 46. Unfortunately they had a rail giving them 4 penalties to carry into the fourth round. Just four combinations were clear jumping with no time penalties, Emma Hughes on Emmaville Charisma who had 4 penalties from day 1, Fiona De la Mezzo on Seal the Deal with 8 penalties from day 1 and Bonnie Martin with both her horses, Dyranta R her FEI nominated ride on 4 penalties, and RR Triple X with zero penalties. Melissa Blair riding Phantom Stealth was out first in the final round of the Category A Challenge. They were clear jumping but had 3 time penalties finishing the class with a total of 18 penalties. Emma Hughes was clear within the time with Emmaville Charisma, finishing with zero penalties. Melissa Blair returned to the ring a few riders later and repeated her ride of zero jumping penalties but picked up 3 time with Flying Teddy. Kathleen Seah added nothing to her penalties from the first round with He’s The One. Neither did Amanda Leyshan riding Emmavile Spice, Martin Gostelow on Classico, Melissa Turner on Beach Chick, Jodie White on Whiskey Jim or Nathan Carswell on Cool Customer. Nathan’s time was one of the fastest and earnt him 5th place in the day’s Cat A class and 2nd place overall in the Australian leg of the FEI World Challenge Category A for Amateur Riders. Bonnie Martin rode another perfect round on both Dyranta R and RR Triple X with Dyranta’s time of 53.96 seconds giving her victory and the FEI Category A title. Triple X was 2nd in the class, Emma Hughes 3rd in both the class and the FEI Challenge and Jodie White was 4th in the class. The huge smile on Bonnie’s face during the presentation is probably still there! Thank you to all the volunteers and officials for helping to run suc h a wonderful show. Particular mention goes to Sue Hartog who never ceased smiling in the office no matter how many changes riders requested.
