The Rock-itt : October 2011
That’s it, the seasons over. Sydney Olympic were the Minor Premiers, Sydney United running them a close second with Suther- land Sharks third. Manly United finished sixth in the league missing out on a play off place by just two points. I’ve lived in Austral- ia for eleven years and I still can’t believe that a team can play the full season, hopeful- ly win their league and then be rewarded with the minor Premiers tag, the big kudos going to the knock out competition played at the end of the season for the Major Premier- ship! In my, obviously minority opinion, It’s completely nuts. This years Grand Final will be played between Sydney Olympic and either Blacktown City or Sydney United their preliminary final delayed by rain. The Grand Final is due to be played October 3rd . Well done in advance to ...... the Major Premiers. After our final game of the season, a rain delayed fixture against Parramatta Eagles which we won 2-0, unfortunately failing to completely avenge our worst defeat of the season 5-1 in the reverse fixture, it was left to Awards night to close the campaign. A pleasant Saturday night saw the Men’s First Grade and Grade 20 squads assem- bled in the clubhouse at Cromer Park. Mon- ey’s still a bit tight at Manly United so it turned out to largely be a guys night out with just a few WAGS to give the proceedings a bit of glamour. I arrived looking forward to a night of fun only to be told that I was the MC for the night and added to that no-one had bothered to organize me a seat. No room for ego’s at Manly! I battled through though reg- ular ground announcer Andrew Doyle is heaps better than me at that kind of stuff. Andrew is also a theatre director and he had a play running over in Marrackville at the time so wasn’t available. The awards on the night were; Grade 20’s “Players Player of the Season” Will Pritchard. Grade 20 “Trainers Player Of The Season” Louis Edwards. The First Grade honours went to Scotty Balderson who got “Players Player of the Season”. Graeme Forbes got “Coaches Player Of The Sea- son”. Club Captain Marc Richards was awarded the “Directors Player Of The Sea- son” and Johnny Hall was presented with a special award to celebrate his 10 year anni- versary with the Club. The night was great Graeme Forbes, “Coaches Player Of The Season” for 2011. An excellent shot by Chris Knevitt with Graeme receiving his award from Head Coach Craig Midgley in the insert. Whose shoes??? Will Pritchard (left pic) and Louis Ed- wards left in the right pic receive their awards, Louis from Nigel Mahoney Grade 20 coach. Johnny Hall receives a special award for his 10 year service to Manly United from Club President Keith Pester Scotty Balderson receives his Players Player of the season award from Craig Midgley. His shoes appeared earlier!
