The Rock-itt : October 2011
seeing them at the Palace of Versailles in Paris, at Brewers Stadium Milwaukee and probably most memorably in front of 100,000 people at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow before communism collapsed. I already have all the bands catalogue, this is far from the first time it has been re- packaged and I have most of the revisions that have been done through the years. However, I think EMI have done a great job with this incarnation, the band has obviously loosened a little control, making „out takes‟ available for the first time. I want these edi- tions too. I wonder how many Rock-itt read- ers actually know the Floyd catalogue? You will know the band but most of these albums were recorded before you were born. I think they still stand up, especially with the re- mastering. Many of todays happening rock bands cite PF as a major influence and I‟m not surprised. In November “Wish You W ere Here” gets similar treatment to “Dark Side” with similarly grandiose editions of that album. At the same time “A Foot In The Door” will be re- leased, basically a Pink Floyd Greatest Hits album. Dunno what happened to their „tracks not being available other than as a whole project‟ but I think I‟ll gloss over that! The marketing won‟t stop this side of Christmas. Next February sees “The Wall” up for the “Immersion” and “Experience” treatments. This album has already sold 25 million dou- ble album sets Worldwide. The Immersion set for the Wall will be a 7-disc set. You will also be able to get all the re-mastered al- bums on vinyl as well!!! Floyd of course aren‟t the only ones going for this “in depth” introspective review of a ca- reer. Just about to arrive in the stores are the Nirvana 20th Anniversary editions of “Nevermind”. You can get this as a de-luxe double CD which contains the original album and 27 bonus tracks, 12 previously unavaila- ble, along with a set of rare photos. The package I would go for is the limited edition collector‟s box set. You get the original al- bum, plus four other CD‟s/DVD‟s which in- clude 70 tracks, 35 of which were previously unavailable. These tracks include the full live show the band did at The Paramount, both audio and video. There are tracks from BBC sessions, rehearsal tapes, the four videos from “Nevermind” along with a 60-page booklet and items of memorabilia. I reckon you should be able to pick it up for around $75. You can also by a 4 album vinyl set of the album as well, just don‟t scratch it! Last set for this month is The Smiths “Complete”. There‟s an “even more ridicu- lous than Pink Floyd” super de-luxe box set of this selling for about $350 but I would go for the more modest 8CD set. The important thing with this collection is that Johnny Marr has done the re-mastering of the 4 studio albums, 3 compilations and one live album included. The first Smith‟s album in particular was mastered quite poorly when released and all these versions, if Morrissey will ex- cuse the phrase, sound a lot beefier! I like to mention people on the Peninsular who do a great job and you should be seeing a picture of the boys from Beacon Hill Me- chanics here who are awesome. Tragically I dumped the picture by mistake, maybe next month chaps!!!.... However; We sold our house in last month and I prom- ised the fantastic Anne Roche at Parnell's Estate agency in Frenchs Forest a shout from these pages. Awesome lady, kicked us into shape and got us a great price for our house. If your looking to buy or sell, she‟s the lady. Pink Floyd, around the time I first saw them in „67 Nirvana‟s 20th Anniversary “Nevermind” box set Very early shot of The Smiths, Johnny Marr has done a great re-mastering job on their catalogue Front cover of The Smiths “Complete” box set, I‟m sure that‟s my Mother on the left...
