The Rock-itt : August 2011
Jess McAllister and Seven Bay Road Twenty six year old, Jess McAlister is not your average Northern Beaches muso. Having grown up pretty much all over the world from Sydney to London, she found herself, in 2011 on the beautiful shores of Avalon, recuperating from a rare illness to her nervous system which took an entire year to get over. Throughout her musical career, Jess has written lyrics and melodies and played in bands such as “Jaimee’s Room” and “The Codes” but most recently Jess has picked up the guitar to broaden her accessibility to writing new music and satisfying her inner feelings. Jess graduated as an actor in 2006 from the Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT), always believing acting was her dream job until music began to creep in, take over and lead the way. In 2010 she teamed up with guitarist and composer, Adam Smyth. Jess and Adam had gone to school together at Cherrybrook Technology High and although after leaving school had not seen each other in five years, found a perfect in-tune collaboration pair-off. Adam studied at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) and has since been writing, gigging and teaching guitar all over Sydney, plus finding tim e to spend in the studio recording for band, “Seven Bay Road”. Seven Bay Road formed in mid 2010 after they had reunited at a church right near where they went to school. Within 3 months they had written songs and hit the studio to record their debut self titled EP which was launched at the Annandale Hotel back in January. The seven tracks EP is available for purchase on iTunes. The pair are unsure of what the future holds, but believe music will be a big part of it. They plan to keep writing and recording together and honing their skills. They hope that people will respond to what they have to offer. Jess is continuing to gig with Adam and other musicians such as Anna Weatherup. She hopes to play in as many places around Sydney as she can and is determined to get her sound out there.
