The Rock-itt : February 2011
Welcome back to our second feature of 'Surf Boat', that great Aussie sport that really brings out the legend of the "tall bronzed Aussie" (whether male or female) to perfection. In this issue we are going to cover an event which was staged in January and as you can probably see Bill Sheridan's photos are great. The Collaroy International Young Guns Competition took place at Collaroy Beach last month. The Young Guns competition is now in its fourth year and is restricted to competitors under 19 and under 23 years old. The event is staged by the Collaroy Beach Club in conjunction with the Collaroy Beach Surf Life Saving Club and there is a whole swag of great prizes on offer. The day kicked off with a few showers but no one seemed to notice as the crews prepared their boats for the races. There were a record breaking 94 crews competing with an overall head count of 450 competitors, some coming from as far away as New Zealand, Western Australia, Victoria, and Queensland, to be hosted by our own New South Welshmen. It was ideal surf conditions with a nice rolling 2 metre swell which gave the boats and their crews plenty of advantage to show off their speed and boat control.
