The Rock-itt : August 2012
The Old Manly Boat Shed, as usual, has a star studded entertainment line-up for punters for August. We thought we’d feature two acts in our ‘Artist Preview’ for this month. So get yourself down to ‘The Shed’ and enjoy......... Les Karski Lez Karski has lent his unique soul/blues guitar and vocal style to The Foreday Riders, Hippos, Bondi Cigars, Donkeys, and Nervous Investors. He’s also been a sideman for visiting artists like Johnny Johnson, Chris Cain, Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ W ayne, Diunna Greenleaf, Barbara Blue and Kyla Brox. A regular at the Bridgetown and Narooma Blues festivals, Lez represented Australia at Poland’s ‘Thanks Jimi’ guitar festival while touring Europe with ‘the Nervous Investors’. ‘Dog Holiday’ screened on ABC TV’s ‘Live at the basement’, featured Lez’s songs performed with former Sydney band mates. He’s now based in W .A. and is a founding member of the Albany Blues Club and their house band, ‘Mooseknuckle’. Les will be in Sydney in August for the Foreday Riders 45th anniversary show and Les and his band will be doing one Sydney show only at the Boatshed manly. Les Karski: Guitar / vocals, Alan Britton: Bass (Bondi Cigars), Rosscoe Clark: Drums (Foreday Riders) and Johnny Graffham: Pedal Steel. The Old Manly Boat Shed Established 1988 Artist Preview with Pete Johnson The MiXed Nuts We love playing at the Old Manly Boatshed for 3 reas ons: 1. Because it is the best live music venue on the Northern Beaches and the only one that properly supports live mus ic. 2. Goff is a good guy! 3. No one else will book us because of "the kind of people" we attract. The Nuts have long become Legends around the Beachside Side Communities of the East Coast after holding the longest residenc y in Australian Rock History, having played at the famed Steyne Hotel in Manly on Sunday Nights for over 16 Years. “ The best time of my life," says J acko, "I wish I could remember it.” This leads me to believe that they are a little older than they claim to be with: Bongo (Bass) stating that he has just turned 32, Jacko ( Drums) apparently cashing in at 29 (yeah right?) ,Rob (Guitar) avoids the question alt ogether, "but that is lead singers for you". The Mixed Nuts are more than just a band, they are about a whole generation of Manly locals that grew up whilst partying with the band, up on stage singing their favourite songs – from Mel Clancy bopping to Shout – to Tom destroying Long Train Running – to Jamel yelling out something in “A” or Brolga talking about the night we named the band by audience vote at one of the first Steyne gigs. Many Short Tours around Australia and overseas have also been successfully accomplished by this talented and fun band of unique individuals. In brief: Not a lot more needs to be said about The miXed Nuts that has n’t already been said, the band certainly needs no sales pitch as they wrote the book on loud party rock.
