The Rock-itt : June 2012
Artist Preview with When Manly Music impresario, Goff Burgess from The Old Manly Boatshed music venue told me that sister soul herself, Lisa Hunt was going to play the shed, I was somewhat blown off my bar stool. What I’ve heard about this little lady over the years has been almost monolithic and to think that this legend of soul was going to be performing right here in Manly is a blessing for soul people all over the Beaches. Starting off in a church choir, Lisa began to develop her love for music, as well as her voice, which has set her on a wonderful fairytale trip worldwide, catapulting her up with the biggest stars in today’s show business. Here is some really cool information on Lisa which when you read it will have you booking a table at the Boatshed to catch her show on Friday 8th June 2012. Lisa (sister) Hunt began singing in that great African Am erican tradition, the gospel church, there was laid the foundation of her soulful singing style. She went on to study voice at The City College of New York (BFA). Lisa's studio credits include sessions with famed producers Jellybean Benitez (Madonna), Toni C (Whitney), Frank Farion (LaBouche, Milli Vanilli), The Berman Brothers (Amber, Ultra Nate), many more. Her voice can be heard on several top 10 dance tracks all over the European continent including being “the voice” of LOVESTATION (UK), CLUB X (Germany), and D1 (USA) In Italy she has been the featured vocalist on tour and recordings of ZUCCH ERO Sugar Fornaciari for over 15 years and has worked with a range of artist from PAVAROTTI to RAY CHARLES (check out her on Pavarotti and friends). She has also shared the stage with musical greats such as ERIC CLAPTON, JAMES BROW N, DIONNE W ARWICK, BRIAN MAY, RANDY CRAWFORD, JOE COCKER, MILES DAVIS, and ANDREA BOCELLI In Australia Lisa has toured and recorded with JIMMY BARNES, DEISEL, RADIO FREEDOM, and JOHNNY (B.Good) JOHNSON. Lisa recalls, “I had the honour of being invited onstage (in front of 50,000 people) to sing with MIDNIGHT OIL” . Lisa's debut album was A Little Piece Of Magic for POLYGRAM. She has had songs on numerous compilations around the globe, both as singer and songwriter and combined has sold more than a million records. Strange for someone you've probably never heard of until now, but hey, that's showbiz! American soundtracks compositions include HBO's Subway Stories (directed by Jonathan Demme), Goodnight Moon with LAURYN HILL, NATALIE COLE, PATTI LABELLE, BILLY CRYSTAL & SUSAN SARANDON. 2002 found Lisa on the international chart topper LOVESTATION's Soulstation. In 2004 Lisa once again hit the road with Zucchero and added a few pop stars to her resume including: RONAN KEATING, MACY GRAY, MOUSE T, DELORES O'RIORDAN (of the Cranberries) and TINA ARENA live at The Royal Albert Hall in London. There she explored new territory with world music star. CHEB MUMI and made new fans in Croatia with the duet, Loredana with ALEN VITASOVIC. 2005 sees the USA release of D1 featuring Lisa Hunt single The Joint Is Jumping (D1Music.com), which already top 20 on the Billboard Club Chart and the Australian summer tour of Forever Soul. Impressed?..... Well so was I. Make sure you get down to the shed for this one, should be a blockbusting night. Pete
