The Rock-itt : May 2012
have a big future. Don’t forget, the album is called “The Brightest Light” and it’s out June 22nd . Another interesting project coming your way soon is an album from honorary Aus- sies, Joel and Benji Madden, slated to be recorded under the rather catchy name of The Madden Brothers. What really caught my eye and I hope will catch my ear about this project is that production duties will be undertaken by Pharrell Williams, the Majordomo of Hip-hop. Good Charlotte co - front man, Joel Madden, has of course seen his star rise to epic heights following his current stint on The Voice Australia - but there is no love lost down under for his twin, as Joel will be soon be joined on the hit TV show by his brother Benji as a mentor. Joel says, "Benj and I have had a lot of fun this year, not only with him coming on as a mentor and working on The Voice with me in Australia but also writing and producing music together and also work- ing on a "Madden Brothers" record. While Good Charlotte takes some time off, we have been working on new music as the Madden Brothers, writing songs that really mean something to the two of us. Can't wait to share it with GC fans, and all mu- sic fans around the world. W e remain grateful to still be making music together, and to have the support of the band, our family and all of our friends " They are also talking about producer Eric Valentine being involved in the project. Eric is known to them for his work with Good Charlotte but his CV is lengthy and includes, Lostprophets, Taking Back Sun- day, Queens of the Stone Age, Third Eye Blind, Smash Mouth, The All-American Rejects and Slash. After the massive (on going) re-issue of the Pink Floyd catalogue which, inci- dentally the Australian market has been most successful World wide, EMI now do a similar job with Blur. It’s 21 years since the release of their debut album Leisure in 1991 and due to popular demand; Blur’s body of work has been personally com- piled by the band and gathered together in one box, due for release by Parlo- phone/EMI Music on 27th July 2012. All seven studio albums are collected with over 51⁄2 hours of unreleased material including 65 previously unreleased tracks and more than twice as many rarities, 3 DVDs, a collector’s edition book featuring rare and unseen photos and a new and exclusive interview with the band, and a special limited edition Seymour 7-inch vinyl. The box will also include a digital download code for the albums and all bonus material. The collection - which sees the first 5 albums re-mastered by Frank Arkwright in Abbey Road Studios - has been fully overseen by Graham Cox- on and producer Stephen Street. Highlights of the box include early ver- sions of tracks recorded for Leisure, bare bones early demos of the classic sin- gles ‘For Tomorrow’ and ‘Beetlebum’, previously unheard songs ‘Saturday Morning’ and ‘Hope You Find Your Sub- urbs’ and never released sessions with Bill Laswell and the legendary session with XTC’s Andy Partridge. Other rarities are ‘Don’t Bomb When You’re The Bomb’, ‘The Wassailling Song’ and ‘Fools Day’ which appear on CD for the first time. DVD material includes Live at Alex- andra Palace 1994 and Live at W embley ‘The Singles Night’ 1999. In addition to the 21-disc Deluxe Box Set, all 7 studio albums will be available indi- vidually, each with a second disc of B- sides, previously hard-to-find tracks and exclusive bonus material. A vinyl box set will also be available, with six of the seven albums on double-vinyl, highlighting iconic artwork and visuals from Banksy, David Shrigley and Graham Coxon among oth- ers. The vinyl box set will include a down- load code to access all of the bonus ma- terial digitally. Each of the 7 LPs will also be available separately on heavyweight vinyl.Blur’s 7 studio albums are: Leisure (1991), Modern Life Is Rub- bish (1993), Parklife (1994), The Great Escape (1995), Blur (1997), 13 (1999) and Think Tank (2003). Would you buy a used car off these guys? It’s the Madden Brothers! Would you buy a used car from the- se guys???? The Madden Brothers, their Mother loves them. All the Blur you’ll ever need!
