The Rock-itt : April 2012
The perennial Richard Clapton will be giving a free acoustic concert on Saturday 28th April 2012 at Newport Arms Hotel. Following hot on the heels of American Indie legend Donovan Frankenreiter who absolutely packed Newport Arms Beer Garden to bursting point, comes our own super star of Aussie rock music, Richard Clapton. The years may come and the years may go but the wonderful music of Richard Clapton seems to be like the grass which grows beneath our feet; it just seems to go on forever, and how good is that? He’s as ‘dinky di’ as the dog on the tucker-box when it comes to great Aussie rock music, and although I’ve been listening to this charismatic entertainer since the early seventies, I never seem to tire of his performances. He can pen a tune with accompanying lyrics as good as if not better than the best in the business and his popularity never seems to wane. “Down in the lucky country”,” “Capricorn Dancer”, “Sitting out on Palm Beach Road”, “The Bondi Icebergs”, are good examples of where Richard’s heart lies. He is a true blue and thank heavens he calls Australia home because we certainly wouldn’t ever want to lose him. “Girls on the Avenue” was an enormous hit for Richard in the late seventies and I must admit it was this song which I still hold as one of my favourite Clapton songs but in this period, Richard seemed to be at his creative best and he wrote a whole swag of great hits which you will hear if you can make it to Newport Arms to see and hear one of our great music icons perform. Voodoo Suns will be support act on the evening as well as “Big Wednesday” on the big screen after the free concert. Limited backstage special VIP area packages are also available. These great offers include a four course dinner at the Terrace on Pittwater restaurant for $60. Bookings are essential for these great offers.
