The Rock-itt : March 2012
Robert's brother, Richard--renowned Hollywood personal chef to the stars-posed as the heroic cowboy in a number of the book's twenty-one oil paintings. The original painting for the book's cover became yet another to grace the personal collection of Mel Gibson. Florczak's next book was "YIKES!!!" (Scholastic, 2003) which featured his (then) six year-old son, Lukas, as the book's only character, a young explorer on safari. In the book, authored by Florczak, Lukas confronts a different wild and dangerous animal on each spread, the text presenting only a single word of exclamation to accompany every confrontation. The sixteen large watercolour and pencil illustrations built the drama from tame and quiet (Orang-utans-"Wheee!") to the fierce and loud (Nile crocodile-"YIKES!!!"). Robert's eighth book, "Horses of Myth" was published by Dutton in 2007, after which he embarked on a multiple- painting project for the limited edition Fine Arts market in Japan. More about that in the next issue of The Rock-itt.... Lone Rider from ‘A Cowboy Christmas’ Gorilla from ‘Yikes!!!’
