The Rock-itt : February 2012
My Decision On a personal note, it has taken a long time for me to realise how blatantly cruel and nonchalant humans can be about everything around them bar themselves. For the sake of enjoying the taste of something we eat, we are willing to have another living creature killed, its right to life on this beautiful planet cut short to satisfy our own selfish taste buds. But we have evolved and with our current technology, we are capable of growing an abundance of produce to nourish our bodies and from this produce we can make all kinds of different things to take the place of meat. Our noble animals have done their job clothing and feeding us for hundreds of years while we evolved, but now it's our turn to look after them as thanks for helping us get this far. For instance we can now buy at the supermarket free of any animal products, burger patties, sausages, coated vegetable sticks, sausage rolls, pasties, spreads and pates, soups, pies and cakes just to name a few and they taste delicious. I have only scratched the surface here. We can satisfy our taste buds without taking a life to do it and finishing on that note for this month I have taken it upon myself to become a vegetarian. I can no longer enjoy eating the flesh of another inhabitant off this planet when there are so many other alternatives at our disposal. I'd be a bloody hypocrite if I continued writing this feature if I didn't take the personal steps that I have. Don't worry though, I will not be up on the soap box each month condemning those who are carnivorous and praising those who are vegetarian. This is a personal choice I have made in my life. However, for those who are looking for another option about their eating habits and want to become healthier at the same time, I may run a small section on vegetarian style living or alternative eating habits just as a starting point for those who decide they would like to give it a try. So perhaps next issue we will have something in place for you to see. God bless our Australian animals and may they soon be free of their oppressors. Don't let your MP off the hook. Send an urgent message today to let them know how the government has let caring Australians down and that while they continue to support the cruel live trade of animals, people like you will continue to demand its end.
