The Rock-itt : January 2012
Report by The Zom Photos by Bill Sheridan Fantastic day from the first arrival till stumps. Tide was on the drop from about 9am till low at 3pm (last race at 3.15pm dead low) North Narrabeen alley was going off, 6' plus and spilling into the boat area, Crews learnt pretty early that a dropping tide at Northie and a rising swell=CARNAGE. Not too many prangs but Hughey was having a ball, so much so that the round robin for Open boat had to be extended to four rounds and the winner picked on points. (We ended up with only 4 from 11 crews). Water safety, Nugget and the gang, were sensational, expertly coordinated and no hastles all day. Thanks guys (including female guys). Another excellent day put in by the officials......And you would just kill for the food Janice and Maureen provided at drinkies. Boy!!, you wouldn't think that the interbranch would have such a profound effect on attendance by taking out just one crew from the open divisions. Unfortunately, in the case of Bilgola, it effectively took out 9 crews (Bucky sweeps 5, and Mitchell sweeps 4 and rows A's). Billy turned up with just Benny Gill and his crews holding the fort. I suppose it was the sam e scenario with the Sydney branch clubs. Palm Beach had a MAJOR fund raiser beach volleyball day (talk major fund raiser at Palmy, and you talk 5 figs.) but still sent half their tribe.
