The Rock-itt : January 2012
When someone once asked me if I was going to check out The Beautiful Girls at the Mona Vale Hotel, I thought they were talking about a bikini parade showing lots of hot honeys strutting the catwalk. But that was a few years ago before I found out that The Beautiful Girls is a band and yes, they’re all guys. I wondered why a name like The Beautiful Girls was chosen an all guy band.... mmmmm! Later on I found out that the guys in the band had agreed to get as far away from the punk rock macho image as they could and so in 2002 the band The Beautiful Girls was born and began carving a name for themselves as a rootsy, folk-inflected pop band. Although they are much loved on the other side of the world, beaches people are just as passionate about The Beautiful Girls and wherever the band play on this golden strip of ours, they will draw big crowds to their gigs. Since those early days a lot of water has passed under the bridge for The Beautiful Girls. The line-up over the years has altered som ewhat, They are today, Matt McHugh (Vocals, Guitar), Paulie Bromley ( Bass) and Bruce Braybrook (Drums) who combine to make quite a formidable trio of musos and singer/songwriters who seem to have the ability to put great lyrics together with great tunes which makes great music. They will appear at the Mona Vale Hotel this month on Friday January 13th and the tickets are $30. These guys are worth every cent so you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. Here is a list of their recordings which after you see them live you are bound to want to get: Morning Sun EP (January 2002), Cooltim es EP (November 2002), Learn Yourself (September 2003), (Blackbird 2003) The weight Of The World EP (2004), W e’re Already Gone (2005) #19 Australia, Water (2006), Ziggurats (2007) #21 Australia, Spooks (2010) #18 Australia.
