The Rock-itt : December 2011
The next few days were spent making Sirocco shipshape once more as the buffeting from the storm had turned the whole inside of the boat upside down. The excess water and the stinking bilges were emptied and before long Sirocco was ready to set sail again in an easterly direction toward Port Moresby. Then as by a stroke of luck one native from the curious crowd of onlookers, who had come to see the white man’s boat sail across the big sea, approached Errol and began communicating in Pigeon English. He said his name was Inamotu and he was quite a likable chap. He showed a big set of white teeth when his face broke into a smile. He said that he knew the area well and if they liked he would become their guide to Port Moresby. Errol jumped at the chance of having som eone with local knowledge onboard and quickly secured his services. After more trading which Inamotu controlled, getting the best deal so Sirocco could fill her larder with as many supplies as she could hold, they hoisted sail and unfortunately having to beat windward, Sirocco headed along the Papuan coast and in the direction of Port Moresby. Although things were finally looking up for Sirocco, Errol, Trelawney, Rex and Charlie the worst lies ahead . Whatever you do don’t miss the next instalm ent.
