The Rock-itt : November 2011
YOUNG GUNS REVIEW FRIDAY OCTOBER 21st @ YOYO’S Friday October 21 saw the second YOUNG GUNS show hit YOYO’s. Four of Sydney’s best young and emerging bands strutted their stuff on the night supported by special guest, the ever popular Lime Cordiale. Despite De’Cuna unfortunately having to pull out at the last minute, Hailstone, Black Manta, Cloudeater, Itchy Lighthouse and Lim e Cordiale ripped it up with five outstanding sets to an appreciative audience. Hailstone were up first playing their first ever live gig to a keen set of punters. Despite some initial nerves, they pulled out a strong set with a mix of very popular covers and one or two originals thrown in for good measure. Next up were Black Manta. Musically tight, this three piece band played a polished set of grungy originals and covers to great crowd approval. Growly vocals combined with dirty guitar and strong rhythms to produce a great stage presence that could easily take them through to the Northern Composure Band Comp next year. Cloudeater (formerly Revilo Flats) played to a happy and enthusiastic crowd, pulling out a hot blend of well- known covers and a few originals that got the crowd moving. Itchy Lighthouse hit the stage with a great set featuring a sweet and funky indy sound that is rarely heard at YOYO’s – and should be heard more often! These guys were original, edgy and intense, capturing the audience and getting them revved up. And last but not least was the headlining special guests Lime Cordiale. These guys have a dedicated fan base and it’s not hard to see why! As usual they put on a captivating, toe-tapping, hip-shaking mix of their own original funk/reggae/jazz inspired genius, and provided a thrill to the swooning hard- core LC fans in the front row when they did signings after the show. And that was that, a night of fun, showcasing a diverse range of local Young Guns. November 4 will bring a new feel to YOYO’s with an Acoustic Night featuring local young performers and November 11 will see hardcore return to YOYO’s with a band night headlined by Northlane.
