The Rock-itt : September 2011
No one needs to tell you that we are having a bumper season because I know you’ve been following our boys every step of the competition like I have from April. The points on the NRL Ladder Board substantiate the fact that our boys are up there with the best of them in second position behind the Storm who are leaders at this point in time . You don’t have to be a fortune teller to know that the Storm are competition favourites and even though we trounced them last month at Brookie,........... I smell a rat. Craig Bellamy knows that for his team to avoid going stale or peaking too early they needed to have a loss after 13 straight wins. He also knows that they have enough of a lead to take out the minor premiership. I am not taking anything away from our boys because they played great football and whole heartedly deserved the win. But I believe that at any other time he would have made sure the third musketeer (Cooper Kronk) would have been there no matter what, so as the Slater, Smith, Kronk blitzkrieg could be implemented. The game at Brookie was just what he needed to give Kronk that extra recovery time, the loss would give the rest of his team a shake-up and enable them to take stock and refocus for the finals and this loss would be insignificant and would have no effect on their position on the Ladder. If anyone lost on this one it was us. With one of our chief play makers, Glen Stewart, bound to be ousted for a few weeks for the biffo altercation, brother Brett aggravating that troublesome knee as well as the inform Wolfman Williams out for the rest of the season with a fractured vertebrae, who were the real winners at Brookie, Sea Eagles or Storm? You tell me! We still have some good back-up in Michael Oldfield who could replace the W olf man, keep Hulk Williams in second row where he has more impact to replace Glen Stewart and if ready to return, young Hopoate at fullback to replace Brett Stewart. Jamie Beurra is also red hot off the bench so it can work, even though things at the m oment are looking a little dicey. Okay, that’s the bad part of the feature out of the way, now let’s look at the positive side. The Foran- Cherry-Evans combination continues to work as well as the move to the forwards of Hulk Williams. Matai running the left and Jamie Lyon running the right is a gem to watch, and fleet footed big Georgie Rose is blitzing them up the middle. The whole team have clicked into top gear but those individuals that I mentioned were stand-outs. If we can m aintain this momentum and stay focused from here on in
