The Rock-itt : September 2011
Last month the L.A. Bar in Avalon re- opened its doors for business after an extensive renovation which has transformed the popular little night spot into a unique eatery and music bar. The premises is situated next to the Avalon Cinema on Old Barrenjoey Road, right in the heart of Avalon Village and although being opened only a couple of weeks, the patronage is already beginning to grow through word of mouth. The interior has been updated to soft muted shades, the lighting is gentle and the staff are warm and very hospitable. There is an exciting new menu on offer prepared by L.A.’s chef who has been involved with the popular television series “Master Chef”, includes big hearty dishes such as chilli con carne and steak sandwiches, served up on natural wooden timber platters. Most dishes come in under the twenty dollar mark so eating at the L.A. Bar won’t break the budget. On opening night, The Rock-itt was represented by photographer, Dave Tozer, to give us his impressions of the new renovations, menu, and entertainment. Dave was very impressed and took som e photos for our Beaches people to see. Local singer/songwriter, Melanie Horsnell was there to entertain patrons and was much appreciated. Melanie played with her scaled down melodic/folk/pop three piece band and delivered some of her original creations which included the celebrated piece, “Som etimes”. Melanie has been performing for over ten years both locally and abroad. Her debut album titled, “the adventures of” has been embraced by Paris as well as New York. Melanie is looking to record her new album in a studio in her south coast home town and at this point in time has an extremely busy music schedule. For more info: www.myspace.com/melaniehorsnell During the following days “Three Dogs Barking,” the fabulous “Emma Louise” and one of The Rock-itt’s favourites, “The Ed Rodrigues Trio” will all play to L.A.’s patrons. It’s obvious The L.A. Bar will be a favourite haunt for those who just want to chill out, satisfy their gastronomic desires, and at the same time take in some nice easy listening music accompanied by a nice cool L.A’.s own label beer or whatever cocktail or beverage preferred. So next time you would like to go somewhere nice and laid back, give the L.A. Bar a try. I guarantee you’ll continue to go back for more.
