The Rock-itt : July 2011
Last month Rock-itt photographer, Ian(Snapper) Bird ventured to the northern end of Dee Why beach to check out the surf at Long Reef and was blown away at what he found. Always armed with his trusty camera and high powered telephoto lens, our Snapper had stumbled onto a moment in time provided by Mother Nature that most photographers only dream about. He stood looking in disbelief at the huge thundering waves which seem to form into glass like tubes before him. Clumsy with excitement, he fumbled as he unpacked his back pack and hastily set up his equipment to capture some of the biggest and best nature had offered so far this winter at Long Reef. To add to his good fortune, the surfing fraternity had turned up to put on a display of board riding that would make their fellow surfing brothers in Hawaii green with envy. Unfortunately we only have limited space for each of our sports features otherwise you would have seen a lot more of these fabulous June surfing snaps from Ian Bird. If you want to go to Ian’s website at www.ianbirdphotography.com, you can see a lot more of what we have printed here. Review by Pete Johnson, Photos by Ian Bird
