The Rock-itt : February 2011
You Am I at Manly Fisho's Saturday 15th January, 2011 As the Manly Fisho's current venue gets closer to its closure and movement to its new location, the club is really going hard to deliver some of the country's most popular musical acts to our local shores. This night's show chalks up another "Sell Out" show for the Fisho's. You Am I has been around for some 20 years and were the first Australian band to have three albums successively debut at #1 on the ARIA Charts. Hong Kong is the first band to take the stage putting on a fine show of fuzz/punk rock. Royal Chant who is no stranger to the Fisho's, hit the stage with vengeance to liven up the proceedings with a full throttle assault of their finely tuned garage pop/punk. Singer/Guitarist Mark Spence leaping all over the stage and finally demonstrating his gymnastic skills performing a spectacular handstand on his drummer's 'Kickdrum' after having the pleasure of demolishing the whole drumkit setup. Royal Chant have their debut album titled 'Raise Your Glass and Collapse' set for release in April so for information on the band visit www.royalchant.com To a capacity filled room and soaring temperatures, You Am I open their show with a new mellow grungy track, 'Kicking the Balustrade' from their 9th studio and new self titled album recently released in October 2010. Their set showcased this new album which sees a more mature, grass roots, acoustic driven, mellower, grungy and lots of flowing vocal harmonies direction for the band.
