The Rock-itt : December 2010
Double Fantasy, which was released shortly before his death was his most successful album selling over three million units. It won the 1981 Grammy Award for ‘Album of the Year. Rather surprisingly it took them until 1987 before he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. It took even longer until he was included into the Rock N’Roll Hall Of Fame that honour was not bestowed until 1994! John was sure that he was being investigated by the FBI during the last years of his life. Only recently have his suspicions been confirmed, with official documents being released in 2008. Could this have been what kept him from not getting these deserved honours earlier? Yoko Ono has been painstakingly loyal to John since his untimely death, she encouraged their son Sean to forge for himself a career in music and he spent some time signed to the Beastie Boys label Grand Royal. Now 35 he has his own record label, Chimera Music and performs as “Ghost of A Sabre Tooth Tiger”. Julian, John’s son by his first wife Cynthia is also a musician but in the last few years had become disenchanted with the music business. The more personal interaction afforded by the rise of the W eb has encouraged Julian to give m usic another go and he is currently recording a new album. Check out his, and Sean’s MySpace sites, you wont be wasting your time. Yoko has spent much of this year re- mastering John’s recorded catalogue which was released to celebrate John’s 70th birthday which would have been on October 9 th this year. Our friend Vicky at EMI Music has given Rock-itt Magazine two copies of the beautiful “Gimme Some Truth” compilation.
