The Rock-itt : November 2010
Stewart Wauchop ‘Manic Monday’ – Mondays 11.30am-1.00pm In between teaching, being a festival director and performing as a singer-songwriter, Stewart found time to join the ranks of Radio Northern Beaches two years ago where he both presents and is a member of the board of directors. His ‘Manic Monday’ program (presented with station chairman David Barr) is a mix of contemporary and older music, themed each week shaken up with unusual news, current affairs and satire. Having no previous radio experience, Stewart nevertheless ticks several peninsula boxes by being a self confessed bohemian, surfer and performer. He also has a deep passion for our exotic neighbour as a frequent visitor to Bali over many decades. He has even seen some of his own students come through to the station workshop – the gateway to being on air (see workshop). Karen Swain ‘Brain Waves’ – Thursdays 9-10am Karen presents one of the most interesting new shows on RNB, ‘Brain Waves’ with her friend Pam Bradbury. Currently broadcasting an “in development” version of the program, once in full flight it will be a talk-back show with music. With Karen a Teacher of Deliberate Creation and Pam a Psychic Medium, ‘Brain Waves’ will channel these two cerebral vocations into answering listeners’ burning questions with holistic life advice. They hope to help listeners, “get back on track to the road to their dreams”. Already running her own, www.blissfulbeings.com.au website, both Karen and Pam are looking to extend the work they already do through community radio and have a host of ready participants ready for when the full show arrives but at present with neither presenter having previous radio experience, they are content to appropriately “feel” their way towards the finished product. Marlene Chappell ‘An Interlude with Marlene’ – Tuesdays 10-11am Like many at the station Marlene has a variety of applicable interests outside of radio, being amongst other things an artist and a singer in a choir. Now there are numerous aspects of training and vetting before somebody gets to present a program on RNB, when Marlene approached the station some twenty years ago she says she walked in the door and straight on air, though this may have been due a previous stint at 2MBS which would make her amongst the stations most experienced broadcasters. The current ‘An Interlude with Marlene’ has been broadcasting for a not insubstantial seven-and-a-half years and focuses on Jazz and Blues, from the old to the “Reasonably” modern. with Julian Brown TEDRO TILING Floor and wall Floor and wall Floor and wall Floor and wall Specialising in bathrooms and kitchens Specialising in bathrooms and kitchens Specialising in bathrooms and kitchens Specialising in bathrooms and kitchens Mobile: 0410312495 Mobile: 0410312495 Mobile: 0410312495 Mobile: 0410312495
