The Rock-itt : November 2010
old and later tunes. "Red Tent" and "Standing By Myself" standing out. Guest appearance by Jono from Optionals/Grand Fatal went down well also on "Jesus Smith". Fun times! MERGATROID - The place erupted with the barricades and foldbacks flying everywhere down the front as soon as these guys kicked off their rockin' set. What a show, all the hits blazed, "Rewind World", "Counterfeit Trees" "Malfunction" and a DK's cover "Insight" for good measure. Adding to the show with lots of crazy stage antic's these guys went out on a definite high, cheers fellas! ASYLUM - Having not played since 1989, you would never have known. These guys play honest rock'n'roll from the heart, a three piece with a blazing sound and lots of energetic rock stage movement by frontman Marc. Marc, Jas and Brad delivered big time to the sweaty and drunken crowd! "High Rise Hatred", "Happy Inside" , "Voice In The TV" were all on the money and a fine guest appearance by Bill Gibson for a Cheap Trick cover also a highlight. The Band finished with a killer version of Iggy Pop's "TV Eye". That man can sing what a superb show! HELLMENN - Tag Team extravaganza! Everyone who had played in the Hellmenn over the years graced the stage tonight. Playing a chronological order set spanning their career, the hometown lads were on fire! "Wicked Brew", "O.O.C", "Trip", "Day Dreaming", "Possums", "Ugly Road" all getting a run amongst a heap more old chestnuts. Stooges cover of "Search and Destroy" went down a treat as did the closer "Homegrown", a northern beaches anthem! Was great to see Hellmenn finally play an Octoberpus! Definitely a massive night and one of the best Octoberpus's ever! This was the Octoberpus Festival's 14th year, which started back in 1992 with a few years off between 1997 - 2001. The Crowd on the night was something like between 400-500 people, one of the largest ever! A major credit to the organiser and drummer in more bands than I can name or remember, "Grant Lawrence". The event ran smoothly with a big stage sound and light show, thanks to sound/lightperson Kevin Meaney, Kevin Mullooly, Mark Forrest and all the great staff at the Fisho's. It’s great to see the support for live music on the Northern Beaches by events such as these and to all those bands who have played at the Fisho's.
