The Rock-itt : October 2010
Andrew Goodman-Jones 'RNBLive' -- Sunday's 7-9pm Despite being far from our oldest presenter, Andrew has already clocked up a mighty twenty years with Radio Northern Beaches and is currently the technical director at the station. RNB Live (Sunday's 7-9pm) is his most recent brainchild and has already generated enormous interest from outside the station. The premise is simple, live local music being recorded and rebroadcast on the station, but the enthusiasm this show generates amongst local performers and promoters is invaluable. Andrews's team arrives at a venue with high quality recording equipment, then mixes and edits the recording back at the station. As we look to give the station wider relevance in our local community, shows likes RNB Live are an invaluable way of connecting with the Northern Beaches population. A long way certainly from a very young Andrews's pre RNB building of his very own station at home! Geoff Williams 'Country Music Showdown' -- Saturday's 12-1pm Another long standing station presenter, Geoff was in fact chairman of Radio Northern Beaches for half a decade until September last year. One of the most enthusiastic fans of country music you will ever meet, Geoff certainly walks the walk, regularly playing live as a singer songwriter, releasing CD's and organising the Belrose Country Music club and their monthly performances. The ex-headmaster of Neutral Bay Public school has been broadcasting 'Country Music Showdown' at what he appropriately calls, "High noon" on Saturday's since 2002 after unrelated fellow country music fan and RNB broadcaster Barry Williams introduced him to the station. Geoff's program indulges in a variety of different styles of country, but with a fond focus on Australian produced music. Barry Williams 'Bazza's Country Music Show' -- Wednesday's 2-3pm, Saturday's 11am-12pm A shared surname is not all these to veterans of the country music scene have in common; Bazza's show immediately precedes Geoff's on a Saturday morning and again on a Wednesday afternoons. The list of achievements is impressive. He has conducted over 1500 interviews including such luminaries of the country music scene as Slim Dusty, Lee Kernaghan and Smoky Dawson. Along with Geoff, he is a regular at Tamworth's annual country bash, in 1993 he was chosen from over 140 community radio presenters from all over Australia to accompany the 'Tamworth on Parade' country music tour, covering 18,000km and appearing on twenty-two radio stations. Bazza's vast involvement in the music scene he loves is way too long to cover here, but in 2005 he was inducted into the Australian Country Music Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. Praise indeed. with Julian Brown
