The Rock-itt : October 2010
Freddie Mercury, lead singer of one of the most notorious rock bands of all time, 'Queen' lived quite a life, and his compelling story is about to be told through film. A biopic of the late musician has been announced with 'Borat' Sacha Baron Cohen announced to portray Mercury. It's an intriguing choice with Cohen renowned for his comedy work, but he has shown his acting talents alongside Johnny Depp in Sweeny Todd. The Pirates of the Caribbean series kind of slacked off in the third film, but the folks at Disney are keen to blow people away with the revamp of the series. Only the characters, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush have survived with the next instalment titled 'On Stranger Tides' having the two sea captains go head to head with 'Blackbeard' as they search for the fountain of youth. Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy will go down as one of the most spectacular film series of all time, now the prequel to the series is in production and may have found its star. 'The Hobbit' tells the story of how Bilbo Baggins got hold of the ring with star of the hit UK sitcom, 'The Office' Martin Freeman, heavily rumoured to play the lead role. Although while recently quizzed on whether or not he has accepted the role, Freeman denied rumours, it was later found that due to his current commitments with another project he couldn't reveal that he is the front-runner.Sylvester Stallones' action epic 'The Expendables' that stars a host Hollywood heavyweights including Rourke, Li, Statham, Willis, and Arnie, has made over 350 million dollars worldwide. Now Bruce Campbell star of the 'Evil Dead' series wants to make a film including all the notable Horror B-film stars. While the script is still a while away, names already being mentioned are Robert Eungland (Freddy Krueger), Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees), and Brad Douriff (Chucky). Clint Eastwood will go down as one of the most influential figures in film history. Whether he was play Harry Callahan, or rounding up bandits in the Wild West, Eastwood's films are legendary, but could you imagine him as Superman, or James Bond? No? Neither could he. Eastwood recently revealed that he was offered the role as the man of steel in 1980, and Agent 007 shortly after Sean Connery retired from the role. At the time Eastwood politely declined believing he didn't have the size to play Superman, and couldn't put on an English accent to save his life. Were just weeks away from 'Toy Story 3' coming out on DVD but it can already claim to be Pixar's highest grossing film. It recently took the number 1 spot from 'Finding Nemo' as it claimed over 1 billion dollars, which is phenomenal for a film that has yet to hit stores.
