The Rock-itt : September 2010
totally without success, thanks mainly to the Manly United ladies who made it to their respective final series in both first and reserve Grade. The First Grade ladies going out by a single goal in the semi final against Inter Lions, played at Sydney United's ground, with Captain Gill Foster unfortunately getting red carded for the first time in her playing career during the game. Reserve Grade ladies fared even better; they made it all the way to the final at Wollongong and defeated Marconi 5-3 to become Champions again! Goals from Tess Leggett, Alex Kent, Jessie Wharepouri, Kristie Crawford and Leah Giuffre sealed the win. Whenever the next Football NSW season starts we will have to be back on our game to catch up with the girls. They won the overall Club Championship this season for the first time in the Clubs history. Jesse Wharepouri made the Australian Schoolgirls team and Chloe O'Brien made the Australian Under 13 squad. As I write there is still time for the boys to get something out of the season. The Under 14's, under 15's and Under 16's have all made it to the Grand Finals. The Under 13's also made it to their Preliminary Final. Stand outs for the boys this season have been Joel Anscomb who made it to the Australian Schoolboys team. Ex players Sam Gallagher (now Central Coast Mariners) and Matthew Fletcher (now Sunderland FC) both made their debuts with the Young Socceroos who were crowned Asean Under 19 Champions this year. A final note from men's First Grade, Jimmy Oates was voted by both Manly United coaches and Directors as First Grade Player of the season and fully deserved the awards. Central Coast Mariners Youth have got at least one very special player in their squad. We have something very special here on the Peninsula and we would love to have you as a part of it. How about putting together a team to play six a side on Cromer Park number one pitch in front of the big grandstand? Starting September 21st is the Manly United Summer Jimmy Oates, First Grade player of the season Soccer Competition. A competition for boys, girls, men, women and mixed teams of all ages.
