The Rock-itt : August 2010
Manly Marvels Band Competition at the Manly Fisho's Semi Final number 1, Tuesday June 29, 2010 Manly Marvels band competition hosted by A Red Letter Day Event Management saw the first of two semi finals before the grand final, which was for the first time independently judged (previously judged by a crowd vote). This Semi Final saw a massive night with eight bands battling it out for a coveted Grand Final ticket. The bands competing were Is It Her, Never Ending Crisis, Escend, Heartless, SideShow Alley, Mending Melissa, Kickstone and Hotels on Mayfair. With eight bands on the bill, their playing time was restricted to about three or four songs only. The night went as followed: Is it her delivered a precision tight set with lots of big guitar solos; Never Ending Crisis with growly vocals, detuned guitars, lots of double kick drum, got the crowd spinning on the dance floor; Escend gave us lots of action on stage with their heavy brand of commercial rock with lots of big backing vocals; Heartless Growled and prowed on the stage with their guitarist jumping onto dance floor to liven things up ; SideShow Alley did their own brand of grunge/pop rock; Mending Melissa came back in full charge with their drummer back from injury with a slick big stage performance; Kickstone delivered their big three piece melodic heavy boogie/aussie rock and finally Hotels on Mayfair from Coffs Harbour showed us how three musicians can be completely in tune with each other, whether they are just jamming or playing original songs that go from melodic vocals to crunching rock with screaming vocals, they are definitely in a league of their own. The results for the night were 1st -- Mending Melissa , 2nd -- Is It Her, 3rd -- Escend and 4th -- Kickstone. These four bands progressed to the Grand Final.
