The Rock-itt : May 2010
Photos by Rachel Smith at www.furdography.com.au where all the photos of the event can be viewed. This is the third year the prestigious Copabella Classic has been held at St Ives Showground and it lived up to its reputation again as one of the most prestigious equestrian show jumping shows in Australia. It is strategically held following closely in the calendar to the Sydney Royal Easter Show to ensure Copabella attracts the best show jumpers in Australia who are already in town with their show jumping teams. What a great weekend of show jumping and dressage! Perfect weather no doubt helped to tempt bigger crowds than ever to attend the event, and there was a real festival atmosphere, right down to the face painter for the kids. The weekend major class -- the Copabella Grand Prix was exciting as always, with John Vallance (course builder) ensuring stiff competition over a demanding first round course which saw only one combination, David Robertson and Sharpe Seal, go clear and jump without penalty. The pair had a rail in the second round, however, and Jamie Kermond and Valhalla 3 won the class in a nail-biting finish. The two day program offered classes running both days up to the staggering heights of 1.50m and we saw many local faces jumping in the beautiful arena. Local junior rider Samantha Tripp gained 5th place on Saturday. Selina Madeleine qualified for the Amateur Show Jumping Final for Sunday, finishing 6th overall after the two days -- she also won a dressage class on the same horse, Samsara Alchemy on Saturday! Vicki Roycroft, Australian Olympian and patron of Northside Riding Club won the Shooting Stars class and came 2nd in the Mini Prix. What a great weekend for Vicki especially as it was her birthday on Saturday! The Copabella Classic was organized by Jane Robinson of Manly, heading up a team of local volunteers from Northside Riding Club all very enthusiastic and hard working. The St Ives Showground is the home grounds of award winning Northside Riding Club - one of the longest established clubs in the Sydney Metropolitan area offering riders a mix of competitions, fun and learning experiences for over 30 years.
