penniless, and exhausted from the ordeal. Errol then made his way on to Salamaua. He had to find a way to earn enough to feed himself and put a roof over his head. Again because of his sailing experience with his schooner, "Maski", he found work on a boat called "Matupi", owned by an elderly chap by the name of Ed Bowen. Bowen re- ignited Errol's dream of finding gold by telling him that there was gold to be found inland from the port town of Aitape. It was a long journey up the coast to Atape and if the gold prospecting failed there was another way to make it rich.
