The Rock-itt : March 2010
NBCMCreceivedagreatboost when Australian Country Music legend, FRANK IFIELD agreed to be the Club's patron at their February concert. Further proof the impact this local club has made in the Country Music scene since teaming up with Balgowlah RSL Memorial Club to promote their concerts every month and follows on from it being named Australian Country Music Club of the Year in 2009. It was great to see a long line of supporters lining up for a photo with Frank in what was a tremendous triumph for the Club. Steve Passfield and his band, "Handpicked" opened the February concert to another huge crowd and it was a very classy performance by a very talented group. It made it easy to see why Steve and his Band have won so many awards --and a big surprise for all was international star Wayne Horsburgh, a sensational talent who spends part of every year on tour in the USA but who made time to fit the Northern Beaches Concert in before leaving again for overseas. Following on was a wonderful local talent from our own "backyard" in Balgowlah - Mitchell Murdoch is his name and we suggest it is a name you should remember. This young guy is going to be a star and is only seventeen years old, at present attending Davidson High School. There was a big turnout of Harley motor cycle riders from the Northern Beaches Social Riders all in their club gear to support the launch and farewell of Club member Ray Blackett on his "Big Blue Ride" - an around the world ride raising funds for Youth Mental Health. It was an emotional moment at the end of the concert as the band played "On the Road Again" and the audience of around 200 strong stood to form an arch to cheer Ray from the auditorium. He has a tough gig ahead of him! (42,000 klms around Europe and the Middle East).
