The Rock-itt : March 2010
Our master biographical feature writer, Pat Frisina, was unavailable for this month's featured artists so it was uptome.IjusthopeIcando some justice to these beautiful and talented ladies known as "The Bowman Sisters". Original founders of The Bowman Sisters were Sharron Bowman and her sister but ten years ago, Katarina took the place of Sharron's sister and they formed a formidable team playing around Australia and Pacific regions. The team played guitar and were a fine vocal duet. They became house hold names over a ten year period and up till last year it appeared that it would stay that way. But Katarina decided that she would like to move south and see what she might find on the other side of the border in Melbourne. With the partnership dissolved, it looked as though the Bowman Sisters' entertainment act was no more, but this wasn't to be. Sharron was settled and wanted to continue with the success that Sydney had brought her and decided to put her feelers out for another partner. She had heard of Northern Beaches own "Little Miss Music" Kristy Leigh Garrett and contacted her to see if she would be interested in sharing The Bowman Sisters act and possibly stepping into long time partner Katarina's shoes. Sharron arranged a meeting with Kristy and once the two girls got together it was obvious to them both that they were the perfect combination for the distinct style of music that they both enjoyed playing and singing. Kristy studied at the Conservatorium of Music here in Sydney and is quite proficient on bass guitar, piano and keyboards and is the owner of a fine voice. Sharron who is quite a natural talent on guitar also has a fine voice and combining these two attractive ladies who are so musically talented is a very big plus to music lovers everywhere. Since coming together, Sharron and Kristy have become the best of friends and carry this warm bubbly relationship into their stage act which has started to escalate into making The Bowman Sisters in great demand right throughout Sydney and especially the Northern Beaches. Sharron says, "It was hard at first getting used to a new partner after working with and hearing the same voice for ten years. I had to almost re-train my ear to hear Kristy and not Katerina and then learn to harmonise differently as you do with different voices. We had similarities but also refreshing differences that took a bit of getting used to, but it would be boring if we were exactly
