The Rock-itt : January 2010
Cameron the freedom to make any film he wanted. Cameron's next film was 'The Abyss' which he says comes from something he came up with in his high school biology class where oil- riggers discover underwater creatures. At the time the 41 million dollar budget made it one of the most expensive films of all time, and because the technology necessary to make the film wasn't up to standard at the time, most of the film was shot in real time where a containment building of an unfinished nuclear plant was converted to fit two water tanks 40 feet high. Then in 1991 the much-anticipated sequel to Terminator hit screens worldwide to critical acclaim. Terminator 2: Judgement Day shattered al box-office records at the time raking in over 200 million dollars in the United States, and over $500 million dollars worldwide; it also grabbed 4 Oscars for Best Make-up, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects, and Best Visual Effects. In 1994 Cameron once again paired with Schwarzenegger for 'True Lies' a remake of a French Comedy La Totale! While it didn't do as well as Cameron's other major projects it still managed to pick up over 200 million worldwide as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. Next for Cameron was his big award winner, which he now jokingly refers to as his 200 million dollar chick flick. Titanic has now become the highest grossing movie of all time with a whooping 1.8 billion worldwide. It spent months on top of the box office in the United States and picked up over 600 million there. It received a record tying 14 Oscar Nominations, and won an also record tying 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Editing, Sound, Special Effects, Music, Score, and the Best Director award for Cameron who upon receiving exclaimed 'I'm the King of the World' just like Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie. After a long break between films Cameron focused a few smaller documentaries as well as researching new ways to bring ideas to the big screen, it's been 12 years but now those ideas that have been brought to life in his new film Avatar that has just been released Worldwide. For fans out there we won't have to wait another 12 years for his next film with 'Battle Angel' (another 3D movie) will be released in 2011. Cameron has said that if Avatar and Battle Angel are successful he has planned a trilogy for both. Cameron has also announced that Titanic will be re-released in 2010 in 3D.
