The Rock-itt : December 2009
with Damien O'Brien NSW All-Schools Championships The abundance of brilliant Manly Warringah athletes is never more evident than when the state's best athletes converge on Homebush each year for the NSW All Schools Track & Field Championships. This year was no different with many Manly Warringah Little Athletes, past and present, achieving some amazing results amongst arguably the best young athletes in Australia. Among the top performers in the Secondary Schools Championships was Emma Bettiol. Emma, no stranger to the podium, strolled to victory in the 15-years 3000m Walk. The boys got into the gold, too, with Jackson Lowe winning the 15- years 400m and Tyson Davis spearheading the competition in the 14-years Javelin. Also trekking to the dais was Conor O'Sullivan (13) with silver in the 1500m, and Rachel Hepworth (16) who claimed bronze in Javelin. Charlotte Hepworth, Amity Delaney, Natasha Slavec and Alana Macrow-Cain were among current athletes who also performed extremely well, while previous Manly Warringah representatives at the championships included Libby Augustine, Molly Tredinnick, Samantha Hulme, Emilie Nelson and Matthew Hulme. Determined to steal the limelight from the seniors were Manly Warringah's junior athletes who competed in the Primary Schools Championships. They certainly did not disappoint with top honours going to Kristie Edwards in the 9-years 100m, Bailey Simonsson for the 11- years High Jump and a leaping Keily Dober in the 12-13 years Long Jump. Narrowly missing gold but happy to take home medals of another colour were Jack Maguire (11-years Discus), Jamie Glover (8-10-years Long Jump), Tyson Holmes (8-10- years High Jump) and Katia Molen-Grigull (12-13-years High Jump). Many other athletes from Manly Warringah took on the state's finest as part of the championships including Gabby Mastroianni, Tayla Paige- Billington, Sophie Harding, Samantha Stanley, Emma Welch, and Jackson Koop. With the current push to combine senior and junior athletics in NSW and raise standards across the board, it is great to see that Manly Warringah is still one of the great breeding grounds for up-and-coming athletes. Manly Warringah Little Athletics Multi-Event The centre recently hosted yet another highly successful Multi- Event carnival. This annual carnival sees athletes awarded points based on performances in selected events much like the process involved in Heptathlon and Decathlon competitions. The focus of such a carnival is participation and achieving personal bests. Overall though, the day provides yet another enjoyable experience for both athletes and spectators involved with Manly Warringah Little Athletics. Next Month In next month's article readers will be enlightened yet again to the amazing efforts of local athletes when results are published following the NSWLAA 2009 State Relay Championships. Also, the centre will soon run its annual intra-club relay race, The Colbert Shield...will Wakehurst take out the title yet again??? ------------------------------ - ----------- Damien O'Brien Publicity Officer Manly Warringah Little Athletics 9905 8984 / 0438 058 984 publicity@manlywarringahlittleat hletics.org.au 2009 MWLAC Multi-Ev ent Results First Second Third Under 7 Boys T SULLY D MORLEY S ORTLIPP Girls P LAUCHLAN M WEBBER J BROWN Under 8 Boys N NEVIN H MCCARTHY L SILMAN Girls L SCHNITZLER A POLIKOWSKI S WATSON Under 9 Boys B WEST A WILLETT B LYNCH Girls S STANLEY E GRINBERGS P DUFF Under 10 Boys B CARTER J WINSTON B KOOP Girls K EDWARDS L MOSES N BRESLIN Under 11 Boys J GLOVER R VORILLAS V FALZARANO- BROWN Girls S HARDING E MOLEN-GRIGULL K BOYLE Under 12 Boys L GORMAN B SIMONSSON M THESEIRA Girls M JONES J FISHER P CARTER Under 13 Boys J BROWN B TREEBY J KOOP Girls A CASTLEMAN K MOLEN-GRIGULL T BILLINGTON Under 14 Boys C THESEIRA H LOWE A BROWN Girls O KELLEHER J WILLIAMS H FOUNTAIN Under 15 Boys E SHIPP J LE ROUX J MELLON Girls A DELANEY T GROOM N CRKVENCIC Under 17 Boys J LOWE J BEHAGG A THESEIRA Girls C HEPWORTH R HEPWORTH P WAITE
