The Rock-itt : November 2009
Popular Beaches rockers 'Seek The Silence' have been busy doing the rounds over the past year, taking their brand of punk rock to the people and are now being recognised for their music and not just a band. With their school days almost over, they will soon be free to crank it up a few more notches and seek out many new opportunities as they arise. Formed in early 2008, the line-up consists of Danen (Vocals), Jonny (Lead Guitar), Dan (Backup Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Ben (Bass) and Sam (Drums). Their music which could be described as "The Sex Pistols, NOFX and The Living End all in a blender", mixes real punk rock influences with modern rock influences and they have gone on to create a sound that is fun to play and listen to, and with the occasional cover ranging from Pearl Jam to The Sex Pistols, the live shows are always enjoyable and slightly nutty. Under the careful guidance of Manager, John Fraser, they recently won a video clip from Talent cakes new artist competition and still only aged between 17 and 18, they have played many venues over the past year such as South Sydney Juniors Leagues Club, Marble Bar, in-store at Utopia Records, Bald Faced Stag, Kauri Hotel Glebe, Manly Fishos, Ivy's Bar at The Steyne, Halekulani Bowling Club with upcoming gigs at The Annandale and Slam Skate Centre at Tuggerah as well as having played alongside bands such as Mz Ann Thropik, Me Vs You, Los Capitanes (ACT) and L.U.S.T. They have also just been offered the support for 'Keep the Faith' the Bon Jovi tribute band and in between their HSC studies and gigs, the band are currently working on material for their forthcoming EP which will please their eager fans.I caught up the boys during rehearsals for some inside info. Paz: Where did the name 'Seek the Silence' come from? STS: We were all throwing around possible band names and trying to think of something catchy and not done before. Seeking The Silence came up but we thought it was too long so we got rid of the "ing" and voila. Paz: How did the band originate? STS: Jonny first planted the seed, wanting to start a serious band and placed some ads around at music stores; Sam answered first and successfully tried out then fellow schoolmate Ben joined up. Dan was the next to join as singer/rhythm guitarist. After a few rehearsals a female singer requested for a try- out, we gave her a chance and she then joined. After many gigs around Sydney and one on the Central Coast, the band began moving too fast for her and she left 9 months later. The band continued writing and rehearsing, when Dan brought
