The Rock-itt : September 2009
Penrith Panthers The Panthers find themselves just inside the 8 with two games to go with a round 25 clash against Parramatta crucial in the quest for a finals birth. The Panthers have had a slow month starting with a come from behind draw against New Zealand, then consecutive losses against the Dragons and Broncos before returning to form with 40-10 victory over the Rabbitohs. Like all season, Michael Jennings will be the key to their success but will look for back up from international forwards, Trent Waterhouse and Frank Pritchard. They sit anchored down the bottom of the table, and need to win one of their last two games against the Storm or the Cowboys to avoid the spoon. At the moment the Roosters look as though they are just waiting for next season opposed to playing out the year and finishing on top of the Sharks. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, Anthony Minichello seems to have slipped back into the team nicely, and next year welcome the new conservative Todd Carney, Manly young gun Jared Warea-Hargraves and new coach Brian Smith. West Tigers The Tigers are another team making a late surge, winning 6 of their last 7 matches with Benji Marshall and Taniela Tuiaki firing for the Wests/Balmain merger club, but a loss to Parramatta in round 24 has put a halt to their run and will now have to rely on results going their way and winning their next two games against the Titans and Bulldogs to make the eight. That assignment became an even tougher task with news that Tuiaki will miss the rest of the season with a leg injury.
